On My Honor

I'm a girl scout, and I love it. So what if that's considered dorky nowadays? I don't care. We're an unbreakable group that does community service and fun things, sometimes at the same time, all together.

We went camping over labor day weekend, and it was awesome. Our campouts are hardly camping in the strictest sense of the word; they're more like retreats into a cozy cabin. With bunk beds. We stay up too late and giggle about things and plan our Gold Award projects. We even did homework. Study hard and party hard, that's us! And we sing while we do it. (I'll bet you wish you were as cool as we are.)

But most of the time, what we do isn't even important. It's just being together; that's enough. There are SEVENTEEN of us. Seventeen teenagers in a girl scout troop. Do you know how uncommon that is? How rare? And to have a group that's as close as we are...that's downright miraculous.

The end of the Girl Scout Law ends with "And be a sister to every girl scout." Since we were tiny Daisies, our troop has added something to that. We run around the room, hugging each other and saying "Hi, Sister!" We still do that now, only it's much less adorable and to an outsider, probably quite odd. But it defines us. We're sisters, us girl scouts. Together 'til the end.
